Embracing Fall

You've heard it everywhere, on the radio, on tv....it's "the end of summer." This might technically be true, but sometimes that's hard to believe when you live in California. I remember, my first Halloween in California was spent trying to skim board in Laguna. I posted a video on Facebook and you better believe I got a lot of shit from my Michigan friends. They were not happy seeing me at the beach while they were in coats.

In Tuesday's post, I shared how I was lacking a bit of inspiration for the holiday line. I wondered if part of this is because I am not in that state of mind yet. Many of you suggested taking a break, stepping away from work for a bit. So I did just that.

Yesterday, after I took Etsy orders to the post office, I took some time off and went to Michael's. I knew I would be surrounded by fall (and winter) crafts, and was bound to find some inspiration. And you know what? It worked like a charm.
I got excited about the holidays. I could imagine that chill in the air, the feeling of going into a warmer house. I got excited for pumpkin picking. Pumpkin carving. Roasting pumpkin seeds. Drinking hot apple cider. I picked up on some new holiday decor and put them around the house as soon as I got home. (Apparently I like pumpkins??)
It was a nice change of pace from a normal work day and it left me feeling excited for the next season. J, of course, comes home and is like "It's not fall yet!!" Quite frankly, it's never really fall in California but hey, I need to get into the mentality for business purposes, ok?

  1. I wish it could be fall all year round! I definitely embrace it, though being in the Midwest (WI) for the fall colors is probably why its the best season of all. I can see how being somewhere with less deciduous trees might make it seem less spectacular. But few things beat scarves and pumpkins. And pumpkin beer. (Try the southern tier Pumpking!!) And for the record, I put my pumpkin decor out on August 1st ;) It's been a lovely and cool summer here.

  2. Being a (Northern) Michigan girl.. I can tell you Fall is definitely here. The leaves are changing and I just turned my furnace on. I would really miss this change in seasons if I were ever to leave this area. So...I say whatever you need to do!

  4. I've lived in the la area just about my whole life, and I totally get the not-feeling-fall thing. it's seriously gotten to the point where I can't even think about Halloween costumes until after my birthday (October 11).

  5. I love pumpkins too!! I am actually resisting the urge to get Halloween decorations :/ Even this far north it's not fall yet. We are having second-summer weather (yech...) right now and I'm anxious for the leaves to start turning on the trees. Tell J he's only allowed to say "it's not fall" for another week and a half ;) lol

And btw, that flower photos is gorgeous!

  9. I think that is a perfect way to get way to get inspired and to be ready. I completely understand not having a fall living in Florida. It's still 90 out so yeah. But come October it will be chilly-ish. I am hoping to do some fall actives but I am still unsure yet.

  11. It's hard for me to believe summer is over. I know it's TECHNICALLY summer for the next few days, but ... things are different. Today was my first day back at the office. It was bittersweet; it's nice knowing that I have a full-time job, but it also made me nostalgic for the past two months I've had for myself. No work, road trips, sleeping in, staying up late, exploring new plans, making crazy plans. Things aren't as unpredictable anymore. Granted, the WEATHER is still unpredictable. It was still close to 90 a couple of days ago, but, today, it shot down to 70. It's all chilly and gloomy and, well, fall-like. :)

P.S. Looking forward to seeing Halloween cards!
