Q&A with JA, Part 1

I really enjoyed reading the questions you guys asked after I shared this post about a Q&A segment. I got a pretty wide variety of topics so I'm going to split them up by topics. Today I'm going to start with the easiest questions and save the more in depth ones for next week. So this post will be touching on the Personal questions and the Technical questions. Here we go!
What's your favorite dessert?

Tough question! I have a major sweet tooth. I occasionally have to bust out the bag of chocolate chips I have in the cupboard for baking just to eat a handful of morsels to satisfy a craving. I'm not really into cake, I'm more of a brownie or chocolate chip cookie kind of girl. Basically, anything with chocolate. ;]

I want to know how you part your hair and how you make it look so smooth!

Ah yes, my super straight hair that will never hold a curl no matter what I try. Honestly, I don't make any efforts to make my hair smooth, I guess it's just like that naturally? (Don't hate me) What's funny is that I would love to be able to get some actual texture into my hair but it's so pin straight that it never works out. As far as the part, my hair naturally parts on the side because I have a cowlick right in the middle in the front.

Do you miss Michigan a lot?

I do miss Michigan. But one of the things I've learned in my travels back home is that the Michigan I left is different than the Michigan that is at home now. I often get nostalgic over the amazing memories of the year or so leading up my move, but I know that things have changed since then. Two of my best friends have also moved out of state. Other friendships have grown apart.

I definitely miss my family though. I'm often filled with guilt for not seeing my Mom enough, not being there as my Grandpa's health suffers, not seeing my cousin's daughter grow up... When my Mom was in town she told me that my Grandpa always asks her "When is Julie coming home?" It breaks my heart.

I feel so fortunate for our life here in California but being away from my first home will always be hard.

What kind of printer do you use?

I have a Canon Pro 9000 and a Canon Pro 9000 Mark II.

I would love to know, do you print all of your cards at home, on your own printer?

I currently print them all at home in my studio. It's possible that one day I will outsource my printing, if I can learn to give up control and accept that change.

What computer programs do you use most?

Photoshop is my most-used program. Before I moved to California I worked at a photography studio for three years. I worked in Photoshop, and Photoshop only, every single day. It's really just a habit now.

What programs do you find best to make/design your cards!

I personally use Photoshop mostly and Illustrator occasionally. I don't know if I would call either of them the "best" specifically for making cards, but they are the programs I enjoy using the most.

That's it for today! The topics still to come are Self Employment, Business, and Schedule. If you have any questions to add feel free to leave them in the comments, or e-mail me! And let me know what you guys think of this series! xo JA

  2. I have been wondering a lot about how illustrators and photographers print their art at home and sell it on Etsy, so thanks for sharing your printer type! I've written it down. Looking forward to the upcoming posts :]

  3. I'd like to know what type of paper you use. I also have super straight hair. I permed it twice when I was younger, but I'm happy with it now. Sometimes I still get curly hair jealousy though

I love Photoshop myself and use it most days as well. I took a couple thorough classes on it in college but I still desire to learn more. I never learned Illustrator. I have it on my computer and Ive tried to fiddle around with it but I get lost.

My favorite desert is an Its-It ice cream sandwich. It will change your life forever!

  9. This month marks my 6th year away from home <3 Home is Connecticut. I'm currently in Florida and planning my move to Oregon. I miss my family like whoa, especially the little ones but, I totally feel you with home being different from how you left it.
