DIY Valentines Decoration

So Christmas is over and I suppose it's time to take down the decorations, right? Well, if you follow me on Instagram, you might remember I was "that girl" posting photos of her Christmas tree in...probably March. I'm pretty sure I took the Christmas tree down in March last year. In my defense: a.) Business gets busy in January, and b.) Christmas lights are pretty!!

SO, in an attempt to feel less ridiculous come March when the tree taking down will most like commence, I decided I'd turn our Christmas tree into a Valentine's Day tree (no less ridiculous huh?). It was actually a lot of fun to decorate for the next season and I love how the tree looks now!
Felt Heart Ornaments

Baker's Twine
Hot Glue Gun
The amount of felt and thread you need depends on the size of your hearts, and the amount of hearts you want to make. I started out making 7 hearts and I used about 3 of the 8x10 sheets of felt found at Michaels.
I started out cutting one heart out of felt. (It took a few tries to get one I liked.) Then I used this as a stencil for cutting out the rest of my hearts. Remember, you will need two hearts per ornament. So I cut out 14 hearts in order to make 7 ornaments. (Don't throw out the scraps! We're going to use them later.)
Once the hearts are cut out, place one heart on top of another. Starting at one of the rounded points of the heart, hand stitch around the border of the heart. Continue following the outside of the heart until you reach the top of the other rounded point.
Next, using the felt scraps leftover from cutting your hearts, stuff the inside of the heart to give it some "volume." Once you get it nice a full, continue stitching along the edge of the heart until it is closed.
Then I cut some 6 in strands of bakers twine, tied them into a loop, and hot glued them to the back of the ornament. Be sure to attached the twine as close to the edge of the heart as possible. A few of mine hang a little lopsided because I attached the twine too low. Let them dry and they're ready to hang! These would make great Valentine's accents on door knobs, shelves, etc. You know, if you're not into leaving your Christmas tree up for months. ;] xo JA

Me too! I decided to leave the smaller of my four trees up to decorate for each holiday! Right now it just has the lights and still looks pretty. So excited to do this!
