I don't know about you, but a lot of times I stumble across something on Pinterest that makes me go "Whaaat?? No waaayyy!" I've decided to start putting these "too good to be true" ideas to the test! I recently saw a pin about making hard boiled eggs in the oven (I'd share but unfortunately it was incorrectly sourced).
Now, I have never been good at hard boiling eggs. I have to look online every time to remember how long to have them in the water, how long to have them off the heat, etc. And on top of that, they always end up being really difficult to peel. I end up losing half the egg on the shell. So I was excited to try out this new technique.
Just place eggs in a muffin tin (I used a mini muffin tin) and bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes. Then set eggs in cold water for 10 minutes to cool. And you're done!
I was SO impressed by this! The eggs came out perfect and the shell peeled right off! I didn't have to keep checking the timer or running to the stove. I just left them in the oven while I got some work done. This is definitely how I plan to make hard boiled eggs from now on. It passed the Pinterest Test! What other things on Pinterest need to be put to the test?
SO cool! Pinterest can teach you the neatest things...I never would have guessed this was possible!
ReplyDeleteI too am HORRIBLE at boiling eggs. This is defiantly my plan from now on. Thanks for testing this out!
ReplyDeleteI saw your blog post and gave it a shot. You're right! It totally works! =)
ReplyDeleteI always think people put these ideas on Pinterest as a joke, like exploding eggs in the oven haha but cool that this one works!!
ReplyDeleteI tried the 1 cup of baking soda in the toilet, leave for an hour and flush, but it didn't do anything...
Haha, must try this just for fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally going to give this a go, thanks!
ReplyDeletewoah! that's crazy!
ReplyDeleteI mess up boiled eggs almost every time. I'm glad this works because it's probably the way I'll do it next time.
ReplyDeleteI need to try this!
ReplyDeleteAlso I love that second picture of the peeled egg. =]
I was also wondering if this really works, I'm happy to see that it does.
ReplyDeleteNever thought of using the oven for hard eggs, but I've always managed to do them by boiling them for between 6-10 mins (depending on size) and then plonking them in cold water for another 10. Has always worked for me.
ReplyDeleteBaking soda for cleaning, might need some vinegar added to it, and made into a paste. Then it's mighty good for cleaning ovens of grease - without leaving that awful chemical smell! Mind you, the kitchen then can smell like a fish and chip shop, but it doesn't last long!
i have a board on pinterest called "so smart" of things like this. of course, i've never done any of them... ha :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE this! I've been meaning to look it hard boiled egg times lately, as I'm trying to incorporate more of them in my diet. This is so perfect! Thanks for the share, Julie!
ReplyDeleteI totally have this pinned too and have been meaning to try it! =) So happy to hear your eggs turned out well

Oh my goodness! What an awesome idea to try these kind of things and blog about them. And I'm glad I'm not alone in sucking at hard boiled eggs the normal way haha
ReplyDeleteraaaaaad! totally on my to-try list now.
ReplyDeleteI saw this a few weeks ago on Pinterest and have been wanting to try it out because it sounded too good to be true! Thanks for doing the leg work and finding out it does in fact work!
ReplyDeleteoh wow! that is super handy! ... did you know that if you crack the shells before you put them in the cold water to cool the yolks don't get that funny black on them ;)
ReplyDeleteSoon on my blog i'm going to be trying out tie dyed tights that I found on pinterest :)

Thanks for trying this out for your fellow hard boiled egg lovers! I'm terrible about walking away from the stove and forgetting-- and overcooked eggs are just rubbery and gross.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be trying this way next time! :)

I haven't seen this on Pinterest but I HAVE to try this!
ReplyDeleteSo awesome! Pinterest is the best :)
ReplyDeletePinterest really is the best!!! I've learned so much tips from this site, I'm obsessed!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a tip for baking time?
ReplyDelete-Because I don´t like them too runny and definitely not hard and "dry" so I would love a minute-guide!
-Mari
I baked mine for 25 minutes and I thought they turned out great! :]
DeleteDo you need to preheat the oven first or stick the eggs in while oven heats up? Because when you boil them in water you use cold water and let them heat up with the water? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI though this was a joke until I tried it. This girls
ReplyDeletepot want be boiling again!!!!!!
Did anyone else have "brown" spots on the egg whites after they peeled the egg? I did on mine from where the egg touched the side of the muffin pan. Any ideas on how to avoid this from happening? Lining with a muffin liner is about all I can think of.
ReplyDeleteI ended up with brown spots all over the eggs, not just were they are touching plus the majority of my eggs busted right before the time was up and I now have pieces of egg shell all inside my oven. I set the oven to 325 and was told 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteif you move the eggs half-way thru there won't be any brown spots. one exploded right before the timer and the yolk had a runny spot. I put the rest back in for 5 minutes and they turned out perfect. I was also using 2 different types of eggs. The brown-shelled eggs were older and were the ones that exploded and had runny yolks after 25 minutes
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try this. I usually boil mine and they turn out perfectly: put eggs into a pot and fill with cold water, cook until water starts a rolling boil, cover with a lid and remove completely from heat, let sit for 15 minutes, drain and rinse in cold water. This works every time without that grey ring around the yolk which happens from overcooking.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I tried this after seeing a different pin and it didn't work for me. Half cooked and impossible to peel.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that! It worked for me! :]
DeleteHey there!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for some specifics to attempt improving my outcome. I cooked my eggs in a muffin tin at 325 for 25 mins on the TOP rack of the oven. I also pulled the eggs out of the fridge right before placing them in the oven. The eggs were very difficult to peel, had burnt edges and the whites were rubbery. I'm wondering if I should have placed them on a lower rack or let them come to room temp first? Any thoughts? Thanks!
This works great, but i had scorch marks on the shell and inside the egg where the egg rested in the pan and it gave it just a slight scorch taste. So next batch I put water in the cups with the egg, less spotting and no scorching! Kept the eggs nice and white for coloring! :) And I got to do house work while they cooked instead of babysitting the boiling water using the traditional method.
ReplyDeleteHow much water did you put in the cups with the eggs? And did you alter the cooking time at all? Thanks!
DeleteThanks!
